Lent 2012
Wednesday 22nd February, Ash Wednesday, marks the beginning of Lent, a special time in the Christian calendar, when study, discipline and reflection help in the preparation for the great celebration of Easter.
Ash Wednesday will see two special services at Derby Cathedral (1.05pm and 7.30pm) with sizeable congregations expected.
Then an exciting Lent programme begins: Major national speakers will offer addresses on Monday Evenings at 7.00pm
27th February – Bishop Graham Cray “Freshly Expressed Church”
5th March – Dr Giles Fraser “Radical Church”
12th March – Bishop David Stancliffe “Worshipping Church”
19th March – Professor David Martin “Established Church”
26th March – Dr Martyn Percy “Being the Church Today”
Dr Giles Fraser will lead a special gathering on “Recalibrating Capitalism,” in the Cathedral on Tuesday 6th March, at 12.30pm. Civic leaders, trade union leaders and members, employers, and the general public are all invited. A sandwich lunch will follow at 1.30pm. All very welcome.
Wednesday afternoons (from 2.00pm) will see a series of talks by local church leaders on “Christian presence out of the box” at the Bridge Chapel, Sowter Road. Again, all are welcome.
Holy Week addresses will be offered by Professor David Thomas, Canon Theologian. Full details soon.
Lent reading is reviewed in the current edition of Outlook, the Cathedral magazine.
